KING'S IRETON NAMED SECOND-TEAM ALL MAC IN MEN'S LACROSSE
WILKES-BARRE
-- King's College men's lacrosse standout Brendan Ireton has been named
to the 2006 Middle Atlantic Conference All-Star Team as a second-team
selection.
Ireton was a standout on a Monarch team that suffered through a 3-10
season in which the team suffered a number of injuries to offensive
players. The Monarchs lost six games by one goal during the year.
The junior anchored a Monarch defense that ranked near the top of a
number of MAC statistical categories.
The Monarchs ranked third in the MAC with an 84.0 penalty killing
average.
King's was fifth with 2.23 caused turnovers per-game; and sixth in
allowing
9.61 goals per-game. The Monarchs also allowed 126 goals, the fourth
lowest total in the MAC.
Ireton also scored one goal with 26 ground balls from his defensive
position.
"Brendan enjoyed an excellent season and was very deserving of this
honor,"
King's coach Andy Orlowski stated. "We had a lot of injuries this year
and a lot of pressure went on our defense. Brendan was a major reason we
were able to remain a very competitive team despite the physical
problems we faced. He usually marks the other team's top scorer and we
are pleased his efforts were recognized by the conference coaches."
