KING'S MEN'S LAXERS DROP DOUBLE OT VERDICT TO LYCOMING
WILKES-BARRE -- Tom Nairn scored the game-winning goal in the second
overtime period as visiting Lycoming College posted a 10-9 victory over
host King's College Wednesday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, Lycoming improved to 5-7 overall and 5-4 in the MAC.
King's slipped to 3-9 and 2-7.
The Monarchs opened the game with a 2-0 lead when John Matusiewicz
scored off an assist from T.J. Lyons, and added a goal just 2:05 later when
Andrew D'agostino converted a pass from Chris Hovis. After a Lycoming
goal from Ryan Godec, King's took a 3-1 lead when Lyon struck net on
assist from Ryan Lachner. The Warriors, however, would take advantage of
a late-period turnover and Matt Lando scored with just 0:13 remaining in
the first period.
In the second stanza, Nairn would score two straight goals and Justin
Dixon added a third straight Lycoming score as the Warriors built a 5-3
lead. The Monarchs would answer when Lyon scored off a Paul Moran assist
and Chris Hovis scored a huge goal with just 0:03 remaining in the half
off a pass by Gary Morgan to knot the score at 5-5 at the break.
In the third period, King's used a pair of unassisted goals from Morgan
and Lyon to take a 7-5 lead with 9:34 on the clock. Godec would score
for Lycoming go cut the lead to 7-6 heading into the fourth quarter.
King's would stretch the lead to 8-6 when Ed Skawinski scored off an
assist by Morgan, but Lycoming answered with three straight goals, the
latter off the stick of Dixon to give Lycoming a 9-8 advantage with 7:01
left.
King's, however, would strike when Matusiewicz scored off an assist from
Morgan with just 0:13 remaining to send the game into overtime.
After a scoreless first extra period, Lycoming would put a sudden end to
the game when Nairn score with 1:36 on the clock as the Warriors walked
away with the victory.
Lyon led King's with three goals and an assist while Morgan netted one
goal with four assists. Matusiewicz added two goals while Hovis chipped
in with one goal and one assist. Monarch goalie Andrew Bartle made six saves
on the day.
Nairn led Lycoming with three goals while Godec, Dixon, and Cisick
chipped in with two goals each. Warrior goalies Matt Lyons and Kyle
Gilfoy combined for eight saves.
King's will end its season Saturday with a 1:00 p.m. contest at Widener
University in Chester.
