KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO MORAVIAN, 6-5
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team failed to make a
3-0 lead stand up as the Monarchs dropped a 6-5 decision to visiting
Moravian College in a Middle Atlantic Conference matchup Saturday at
Betzler Fields.
With the loss, the Monarchs fell to 3-6 overall and 2-4 in the MAC.
Moravian, meanwhile, improved to 2-8 and 1-4 in league action.
King's took a 1-0 lead when Paul Moran scored unassisted the 11:48 mark.
Gary Morgan then scored at 13:33 of the second period and T.J. Lyon
struck net with 8:27 left in the half to give the Monarchs a 3-0 lead.
Moravian would send the game into a 3-1 half-time score when T.J. Hirsch
scored with 6:16 on the clock.
The Greyhounds would cut the lead to 3-2 when Kyle Gardner scored off an
assist by Jason Tosches with 6:35 remaining in the third period. The
Monarchs countered when Gene Giallombardo's goal with 1:49 left in the
quarter upped the lead to 4-2. But Moravian answer just 0:40 later on an
unassisted goal from Hirsch to cut the margin to 4-3.
Moravian would score three straight fourth quarter goals, the last by
Christopher Danni to take a 6-4 lead with 5:37. King's would respond
when Gary Morgan scored off an assist by Ryan Lachner with 2:21 left in
the contest, but the Monarchs were unable to push across a tying goal in
the final moments.
Morgan led King's with two goals while Moran added one goal and one
assist. Tim Cassi made 12 saves in goal for the Monarchs. Hirsch led the
Greyhounds with two goals while Tosches chipped in with one goal and two
assists. Ben Larson made eight saves in net for Moravian.
King's travels to face Messiah College Monday at 4:00 p.m. in Grantham.
