KING'S LAXERS FALL TO SUSQUEHANNA, 5-4

SELINSGROVE -- B.J. Allen scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the third period as host Susquehanna University posted a 5-4 victory over King's College Tuesday in Selinsgrove.

What the win, Susquehanna improved to 6-3 overall and 4-1 in the Middle Atlantic Conference. The Monarchs slipped to 3-5 and 2-3 in MAC play.

Susquehanna took a 2-0 lead on goals by Ryan Walters and Tom Thayer, but the Monarchs cut the lead to 2-1 when Paul Moran struck net with 6:02 remaining in the first half. Thayer tallied his second goal to give the Crusaders a 3-1 lead, but John Matusiewicz scored off an assist by Chris Landry to bring King's within 3-2 with 1:31 left in the half. Susquehanna would score a crucial goal with just 0:36 remaining on the clock to give the Crusaders a 4-2 halt-time lead.

Allen would score the final goal of the game for Susquehanna with 11:44 to go in the third period, but King's quickly countered when Matusiewicz scored unassisted just 33 seconds later to bring the Monarchs to within 5-3. King's needed just 54 seconds to push across another goal as Landry's score cut the lead to 5-4.

The final 25 minutes of the game became a defensive struggle as neither team would score again as Susquehanna held on for the victory. King's outshot Susquehanna 8-3 in the fourth quarter, but were unable to beat Crusader goalie Kirk Ryan.

Matusiewicz paced King's with two goals while Landry added one goal and an assist. Ryan Lachner and Gene Giallombardo chipped in with seven and six ground balls respectively. Monarch goalie Tim Cassi made 11 saves in the contest.

Thayer led Susquehanna with two goals while Ryan registered 12 saves.

King's will next host Moravian College Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Betzler Fields
