KING'S MEN'S LACROSSE RACES PAST SUNY-MARITIME, 13-10

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's lacrosse team overcame a 5-0 deficit with eight third-quarter goals as the Monarchs posted a 13-10 decision over visiting SUNY-Maritime Saturday at Betzler Fields.

With the win, King's improved to 3-2 on the year while the Privateers slipped to 6-2.

SUNY Maritime would build a 3-0 first quarter lead on goals by Keith Fricke, Lawrence Montreuil, and Dan Roach. The Privateers would stretch the lead to 5-0 in the second quarter with goals from Stephen Doherty and Andrew Marklin.

The Monarchs would finally reach the scoreboard when Curtis Reinard struck net with 9:52 remaining in the half. King's would cut the lead to 5-2 at the half when Brendan Novotny scored unassisted with 4:08 left in the opening stanza.

King's came flying out of the gates in the third quarter when Chris Landry scored back-to-back goals off a pair of assists from Reinard to bring the Monarchs to within 5-4. King's then tied the score at 5-5 when Kris Skewes scored off a John Doran assist with 9:48 remaining in the third period. King's would take its first led of the day when Reinard scored on a feed from Landry to give the Monarchs a 6-5 lead with 7:00 left in the third quarter.

After Stephen Doherty scored for SUNY-Maritime to knot the score at 6-6, Skewes scored just 0:47 later to give King's the lead for good with 5:07 left in the third. Landry, Novotny, and Rusty Booth would continue the onslaught for the Monarchs who would stretch the lead to 10-6 after outscoring the Privateers 8-1 on the third quarter.

After the teams traded goals to start the fourth quarter, Lyon and Reinard would score back-to-back goals to give King's a 13-8 lead with 4:04 left in the contest. Maritime would add two more goals, the last coming with just 0:30 remaining, as King's would walk away with the victory.

The win marked the second time the Monarchs have come back from a large early deficit. King's trailed Moravian 6-0 on March 15 and rallied for a 10-8 victory.

King's outshot SUNY-Maritime 38-28 while owning a 43-35 advantage in ground balls.

Reinard led King's with three goals and three assists while Landry added three goals and one assist. Skewes, Booth, and Novotny netted two goals each while Doran chipped in with three assists to pace the Monarch attack. In goal, Tim Cassi made 13 saves to pick up the win.

Montreuil led SUNY-Maritime with three goals while Chris Toby and Doherty scored twice each. Colin Gallagher made nine saves in goal for the Privateers.
