KING'S FOOTBALL DROPS 24-6 VERDICT TO LYCOMING

WILLIAMSPORT -- Freshman quarterback Tim Hook completed 13-of-25 passes for 255 yards and two touchdowns while rushing for another to lead host Lycoming College to a 24-6 victory over Ming's College in a Middle Atlantic Conference matchup Saturday in Williamsport. It marked the first meeting between the two teams since the 2004 campaign.

With the win, Lycoming improved to 3-6 overall and 3-3 in the MAC. King's, meanwhile fell to 0-9 overall and 0-6 in the MAC. It marks the first time King's ever been 0-9 since varsity football was reinstated at King's in 1993.

The Warriors would strike first after recovering a fumble at the Lycoming 43-yard line. Hook would move Lycoming to the King's 31 after a 12-yard pass to Ryan Wagaman. After a holding penalty pushed the ball back to the Monarch 42, Hook found Brian Shellenberger two plays later for a 42-yard touchdown pass. Scott Erickson added the point after to give the warriors a 7-0 lead with 2:38 left in the first quarter.

In the second quarter, Hook would engineer a seven-play, 80-yard drive, capped by a 41-yard scoring toss from Hook to Shellenberger with 10:41 remaining in the half. Erickson added the point-after to give the Warriors a 14-0 lead.

Later in the half following a King's punt, Lycoming would take over at its own 16. A 54-yard pass from Hook to Mark Ryan would advance the ball to the Monarch 12. Two plays later, Hook would score on a two-year run and Erickson added the conversion with 1:06 on the clock as Lycoming took a 21-0 lead at the break.

Late in the third quarter, Lycoming would intercept King's quarterback Olayinka Soda at the Warrior 22-yard line. The Warriors would match to the King's 23 where the drive would stall. Erickson would enter the game and made good on a 40-yard field goal to stretch the Lycoming lead to 24-0 with 12:17 left in the contest.

King's would finally reach the scoreboard when the Monarchs took over at the 50-yard line following a Warrior punt. Quarterback John Cuiffo would find Rick Ritter for 12 yards, then hit Bob Cirko for 13 ore yards to the Lycoming 26. After a six-yard pass to Bob Lane moved the ball to the Lycoming 13, Cuiffo and Cirko would hook up on the next play for a King's touchdown. The extra-point kick failed as Lycoming maintained a 24-7 lead with 1:00 on the clock.

King's would attempt an onsides kick but Lycoming would recover and ran out the clock to end the contest.

Lycoming's out gained King's 420-to-270 in total yards and held the Monarchs to just 43 rushing yards. Shellenberger made four receptions for 97 yards while Bill Margetich added three catches for 53 yards. Josh Kleinfelter rushed for 94 yards on 21 carries to aid the Lycoming attack.

King's starting quarterback Blaine Fox completed 6-of-14 passes for 87 yards while Cuiffo was 7-of-12 for 79 yards and one score. Soda, who was making his quarterbacking for King's, was 4-of-8 for 26 yards and two interceptions. Cirko led the Monarchs offensively with seven catches for 97 yards and one touchdown while Ritter added five receptions for 76 yards. Jeramia Jones led the running attack with 32 yards on 12 carries.

Defensively, Tore Alaimo led King's with 10 tackles, while Matt Rhodes added three stops, including three tackles for loss.

King's will close out its season Saturday at home with a 1:00 p.m. contest against FDU-Florham at Betzler Fields.
