WILKES-BARRE - King’s College head football coach
Rich Mannello has announced the fourth-annual Big Men Only Football Camp
will be held June 19-21 at King’s Robert L. Betzler Fields in Wilkes-Barre Township.
The camp, which is dedicated solely to offensive and
defensive linemen, will be directed by Mannello, who doubles as King’s
offensive line coach, as well as several Monarch assistant coaches.
The camp, is for linemen entering grades 7-12 and
will run from 5:30-8:00 p.m. each day. With a heavy emphasis on technique
the camper will be instructed in drive-block progression, pass protection,
trap-and-pull blocking as well as defensive line techniques such as the
swim, rip or bull-rush.
Campers will have an opportunity to utilize the
technique in scheduled line competitions and opportunity to watch film of
King's linemen as well as themselves.
King’s has developed three of the past five Middle
Atlantic Conference “Offensive Lineman of the Year” while producing four
All-American defensive linemen over the past four seasons.
The cost is $90 per camper, or $70 each for
brothers. There's a $10 discount for applications received on or before
May 31. If space is available, same-day registration costs $110.
Joining Mannello in the core staff are King's assistants Fred Klein, an offensive line coach
for the Monarchs; Ray Yakavonis, a King's defensive line coach and former
NFL player with the Minnesota Vikings and Kansas City Chiefs.
Also assisting with the camp is Tom Oldziejewski, a
King's defensive line coach and a former Big 33 player who was a
scholarship football player at Penn State.; along with longtime Monarch
assistant Nick Ametrano. Other staff will be assigned to create a suitable
player-coach ratio.
A rain date of Friday, June 21 is also in place should inclement weather
force a day of camp to be canceled.
