FOUR MONARCH GRIDDERS EARN ALL-MAC HONORS
WILKES-BARRE -- Four members of the King's College
football team have been selected to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference
All-Conference, the MAC Office announced Wednesday.
Earning
first-team honors for King's were senior linebacker Tore Alaimo
(Pittston Twp./Pittston Area) and senior offensive lineman Vince
DiMedio (Berlin, NJ/Camden Catholic). Second-team status was awarded
to senior offensive linemen Christian Specht (Hunlock Creek/Bishop
Hoban) and Chris Knechel (Lansdale/North Penn).
Alaimo (above) concluded a brilliant career at King's after
gaining an NCAA medical redshirt following a season-ending injury just
prior to the 2006 campaign. Alaimo returned in 2007 to set a new King's
single-season tackles mark with 127 stops, breaking the previous record
of 118 by Chad Ormond in 1996. In the process, he also posted a
school-record 73 assists, surpassing the previous best mark of 59 also
set by Ormond in 1996. Alaimo also broke King's career tackles record
with 354 stops, besting the mark of 306 by Ormond from 1993-96.
He also set the Monarchs career mark of 167 assists, surpassing the
previous best of 132 set by Ormond form 1993-96. Alaimo also moved into
second-place on King's list list for career solo tackles (187), trailing
only former Division III National "Defensive Player" of the Year Steven
Wilson who registered 190 solo stops from 1999-2002. Additionally,
Alaimo concludes his career with 19.5 tackles for loss five
interceptions, four fumble recoveries, five quarterback sacks, six
blocked kicks, while breaking up nine passes.
DeMedio
(right) was a four-year starter at offensive guard and joined Alaimo
as King's 2007 team captains. Specht was a three-year starter and proved
to be one of the most verstile offensive linemen in King's history,
playing guard as a sophomore, center as a junior, and left tackle as a
senior. Knechel was a two-year starter at right tackle.
The
trio helped King's to an average of 277 yards of total offense per-game
despite the Monarch offense suffering numerous injuries at quarterback,
running back, and wide receiver throughout the season.
DeMedio
was a first-team all-conference selection while Specht (above)
was a first-team pick at center in 2006 while Knechel (right) was
a repeat second-team choice at tackle.
