DECEMBER 14, 2006KING'S HAYWOOD NAMED
FIRST-TEAM A.P. LITTLE ALL-AMERICAN TEAM
WACO,
TX -- After concluding an outstanding senior year in which he has
received a slew of awards, King’s College senior defensive back Craig
Haywood received his highest honor today when the Monarch standout was
named to the 2006 Associated Press Little All-American Team.
The Little All-American team stands as the top small college squad as
players are selected from both NCAA Division II and III colleges. On
Monday, Haywood was named to the American Football Coaches Association
Division III All-American Team as a first-team choice before receiving
his latest honor.
Haywood, a two-time All-Middle Atlantic Conference choice concluded the
2006 campaign with 67 total tackles, including a team-best 44 solo hits.
He
posted a King's single-season record of 12 interceptions, the third-best
total in MAC and the most in all
divisions of college football this season. Haywood also proved to be
extremely dangerous during interception returns, averaging 17.4 yards
each return. He concluded his King’s career with 158 tackles and a
school-record 19 interceptions.
Haywood joins former Monarch great
Steven Wilson as the only King's players ever named to the Little
All-American Team. Wilson, who remains the NCAA Division III career
leader in quarterback sacks and tackles for loss, was a two-time
first-team selection in 2001 and 2002.
Haywood is currently in Aguascalientes, Mexico practicing with his Team
USA squad for the 2006 Aztec Bowl where a Division III all-star team
will face the Mexican National Team on Saturday, December 16.
