KING'S HAYWOOD NAMED
FIRST-TEAM ALL-AMERICAN BY AFCA
WACO,
TX -- King’s
College senior defensive back Craig Haywood has been named to the
American Football Coaches Association Division III All-American Team as
a first-team choice, the AFCA office announced Monday morning.
Haywood was one of just 25 NCAA Division III players nationwide selected
to the team.
A resident of Chester, Pa., Haywood was a two-time All-Middle Atlantic
Conference selection for the Monarchs. He led all divisions of college
football in 2006 with a King's single-season record with 12
interceptions this season, producing the third-best total in MAC
history. He finished the 2006 campaign ranked second on the squad with
67 total tackles, including a team-best 44 solo stops. Haywood also
averaged 17.4 yards per-interception return. He concluded his King’s
career with 158 tackles and a school-record 19 interceptions.
Haywood becomes the eighth Division III all-American since King's
resumed varsity football in 1993. He joins a list that includes Steven
Wilson (2001-02), Chris Keene (2002), Chris Shivery (2001), Damon Saxon
(2000), Rubin Doster (2000), and Rob Johnston (1999).

The Monarch standout was previously rewarded for his fine season by
being named to play for the United States in the Aztec Bowl on Saturday
(December 16) in Aguascalientes, Mexico. The game features an AFCA
Division III all-star squad that competed against the Mexican National
Team.
With his selection, Haywood received an expense-paid trip from the AFCA
to Mexico where the team is currently practicing together for a week
prior to the contest.
He was one of 48 NCAA Division III seniors from around the country named
to the Aztec Bowl squad. Haywood became just the second Monarch player
selected to play in the contest, joining Wilson, who played in the 2002
Aztec Bowl.
Aside from his success on the field, Haywood doubles as an outstanding
student with 3.317 overall grade-point average as a Mass Communications
major. He was twice named to the Middle Atlantic Conference
All-Academic Team.
