SIX MONARCHS NAMED TO ALL-MAC FOOTBALL SQUAD

WILKES-BARRE -- A total of six King's College football players have been named to the All-Middle Atlantic Conference all-star squad, the MAC Office announced Tuesday.

Earning first-team honors for King's were junior linebacker Tore Alaimo Pittston/Pittston Area), senior wide receiver Blake Letchford (Marlton, NJ/Cherokee), and senior center Nick Renninger (Whitehall/Whitehall).
Second-team choices included junior tailback John Ortiz (Philadelphia/Roman Catholic), senior tight end Matt Nicodemus (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll), and junior defensive back Craig Haywood (Chester/Cardinal O'Hara).

Alaimo earned a spot on the first-team for the second straight year after an outstanding season in which he led the Middle Atlantic Conference with 112 total tackles, the second most in King's history. Alaimo also set a new King's season mark with 69 solo stops while adding 43 assists. He also totaled 6.5 tackles for losses of 24 yards, 2.0 sacks for 18 yards in losses, two fumble recoveries, and an interception.

Letchford, meanwhile, enjoyed a record-breaking year for the Monarchs. He set King's single-season records for receptions (56), yards (993) and touchdowns (11). Letchford averaged 17.7 yards per-catch and 99.3 receiving yards per-game on 5.6 receptions per-game.

Renninger earned first-team status in his first season as a full-time starter for the Monarchs. Renninger led an offensive line that enabled King's to average 423.4 yards of total offense per-game, including 191.7 rushing yards and a school-record 231.7 passing yards. The Monarchs offensive line allowed just seven quarterback sacks all-season.

Ortiz also concluded his first season as a starter at tailback and rushed for 123.8 yards per-game with 14 touchdowns. Ortiz, who averaged 4.7 yards per-carry, also caught nine passes out of the backfield for 152 yards. He was first on the team in scoring with 84 points. Ortiz rushed for over 100 yards in six games, including a career-high 267 yards on an NCAA Division III record 59 carries on September 24 against Albright.

Nicodemus earned a second-team berth for the second consecutive season after posting 24 catches for 286 yards and two scores. Nicodemus also doubles as an outstanding blocker in King's run game.

Haywood made a successful transition from cornerback to safety and posted 37 tackles with an interception and fumble recovery despite missing two late-season games with an injury.
