MONARCH GRID STANDOUTS LETCHFORD, ALAIMO NAMED TO FOOTBALL GAZETTE
REGIONAL TEAM
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College football standouts Tore Alaimo
(Pittston/Pittston Area) and Blake Letchford (Marlton,
NJ/Cherokee) each picked another post season honor when the Monarch
duo were both named to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division
III East Region Team as second-team selections
A two-time first-team Middle Atlantic Conference selection, Alaimo
enjoyed an outstanding season for the Monarchs and had been previously
named a first-team MAC all-star; a first-team Eastern College Athletic
Conference all-star; and a third-team D3Football.com
All-East Region selection.
The 6-0, 230-pound linebacker,
Alaimo led the Middle Atlantic Conference with 112 total tackles,
registering the second most tackles in King's history. Alaimo also set a
new Monarch single-season mark with 69 solo stops while adding 43
assists. He also totaled 6.5 tackles for losses of 24 yards, 2.0 sacks
for 18 yards in losses, two fumble recoveries, and an interception.
On the year, Alaimo posted four games with 15 or more tackles, including
a career-high 17 stops October 29 against 2005 MAC champion and NCAA
quarterfinalist Delaware Valley. Alaimo also set a King's single-game
record with 15 solo tackles on September 17 against Moravian College.
"Tore had an outstanding year and was a tremendous leader on and off the
field," King's coach Rich Mannello stated. "His work-ethic is
second-to-none and is without question of the of the top defensive
players in our region. He is a sideline-to-sideline defender and is the
rare combination of size, speed, and strength at this level."
The 6-1, 190-pound
Letchford enjoyed an outstanding senior year for King's
where he became the first Monarch wide receiver to receive first-team
all-MAC honors.
He set King's single-season records for receptions (56), receiving yards
(993) and touchdowns (11). Letchford averaged 17.7 yards per-catch and
99.3 receiving yards per-game on 5.6 receptions per-game. Letchford, who
transferred to King's from Division I-A LaSalle in 1993, finished his
three-year Monarch career with school-records of 95 receptions and 1,490
receiving yards.
"Blake did a great job for us this year and was a major reason why we
were able to put in a a much more diversified passing attack than we had
in years past," Mannello added. "He became a major offensive threat for
us and that is attributed to how hard he works. Blake made himself into
a better player and the recognition he has received is a great reward
for his efforts."
