ZAMBINO, ALAIMO, NAMED TO ECAC SOUTHEAST ALL-STARS
WILKES-BARRE -- King's College football standouts
Derek Zambino and Tore Alaimo were selected to the Eastern College
Athletic Conference Southeast Region All-Star Team.
Zambino was a first-team choice, while Alaimo was an
honorable mention selection.
The 5-11, 195-pound Zambino was outstanding in his
first season at safety, after spending his first three seasons at
cornerback for the Monarchs. Zambino was second on the team with 74
tackles, including a team-high 53 solo stops. He also added three
interceptions and broke up six passes, setting a King's career record with
36.
Alaimo, a 6-0, 225-pound linebacker, enjoyed a
banner season after posting a team-high 82 tackles with 51 solo hits
despite missing one game with an injury. Alaimo had 4.5 tackles for 26
yards in losses, two sacks, three interceptions. He helped anchor a
Monarch defense ranked second in the MAC in yielding just 124.9 rushing
yards per-game.
King's senior tailback Richard Jackson was a
shocking omission from the team. Jackson rushed for 1,550 yards and ranked
seventh nationally, averaging 155.0 yards per-game with an MAC leading 21
total scores. Jackson finished his career as the second leading rusher in
MAC history and stands eighth in NCAA Division III history with 5,365
yards.
Bret Trichilo of Wilkes and Moravian's Chris Jacoubs
finished fourth and fifth nationally in rushing and were named to the ECAC
first-team. However, Pat Thompson of Rowan rushed for 108.1 yards per-game
and Shane Davis of Cortland rushed for 100.9 yards per-game. Both were
selected over Jackson on the honorable mention team.
