JACKSON, ALAIMO NAMED TO EAST REGION ALL-AMERICAN
TEAM
COLUMBUS, OH -- King's College football standouts
Richard Jackson of Lackawanna Trail and Pittston Area product Tore Alaimo
have been selected to the Don Hansen's Football Gazette NCAA Division III
East Regional All-American Teams. Jackson was a second-team choice while
Alaimo was named to the third team.
A senior tailback, Jackson finished his senior year
ranked seventh nationally with a 155.0 yards per-game average after
totaling 1,550 yards in 10 games. The Monarch standout was tied for the
Middle Atlantic Conference lead in scoring (126 points) and touchdowns
(21) while also setting a King's school-record with 19 rushing touchdowns.
Jackson finished his career as the second leading
rusher in MAC history and stands seventh in NCAA Division III history with
5,365 yards. One of the most durable runners in college football history,
Jackson he became just the fourth runner ever in Division III to surpass
both the 5,000-yard/1,000-carry plateaus.
The 6-0, 225-pound Alaimo enjoyed a banner season
for a Monarch defense that ranked second in the MAC in yielding just 124.9
rushing yards per-game. The sophomore linebacker posted a team-high 82
tackles with 51 solo hits despite missing one game with an injury. Alaimo
added 4.5 tackles for 26 yards in losses, two sacks, three interceptions
on the year.
"We are very happy for Richard and Tore and
feel both are deserving of post-season recognition," King's coach
Rich Mannello stated. "Richard's numbers are impressive and was
clearly a difference-maker for our program and helped put us on the map.
Tore had a super year for us and is a tremendous leader with a great work
ethic who loves to compete."
