MONARCH CAGERS FALL TO ALBRIGHT IN OVERTIME
WILKES-BARRE -- Greg Conroy hit a go-ahead
three-pointer with 0:15 remaining in overtime as the Albright College
men's basketball team won a thrilling 85-84 verdict over host King's
College Tuesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, Albright improved to 2-1 on the year while the Monarchs
slipped to 1-2.
The game was a back-and-forth affair that featured eight ties and 13
lead changes. Albright appeared to have the game won in regulation when
a pair of foul shots by Matt Kieselowsky with 0:04 left gave the Lions a
76-73 lead. But King's Jamie Cousart would sink a three-pointer from
just inside the half-court line to knot the score at 76-76 and send the
game into overtime.
Kings' would take a 81-78 lead on a three-pointer from Vince Scalzo with
2:29 remaining but Albright battled back and took an 82-81 lead on a
pair of foul shots by Conroy. After Jim Welsh buried a three-pointer to
give the Monarchs an 84-82 lead with 0:25 on the clock, Conroy came
through with what proved to be the game-winning three-pointer.
King's had one last shot but Cousart was knocked to the ground on a
drive to the basket with 0:01 left and the shot rolled off the rim as
the Lions would walk away with the victory.
Cousart led all scorers with 27 points, eight rebounds, and seven
assists while Bob Nenstiel followed with 18 points. Scalzo added 15
points and six boards while Vince Sobocinski chipped in with eight
points off the bench.
Albright was led by Conroy with 24 points while Tom Murphy tallied 17
points.
King's returns to action Saturday at 3:00 p.m. when the Monarchs host
2006 NCAA Sweet 16 qualifier Widener University.
