COUSART, SCALZO REPEAT ON ALL-FREEDOM CONFERENCE MEN'S BASKETBALL SQUAD

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College men's basketball standouts Jamie Cousart (Holland/Holy Ghost Prep) and Vince Scalzo (Shickshinny/Northwest) have been selected to the 2007 All-Freedom Conference Team, the Middle Atlantic Conferences Office announced Wednesday.

Cousart was a first-team selection while Scalzo was a second-team choice. It marks the second straight year Cousart earned first-team honors and Scalzo was named to the second team.

A junior point-guard, the 6-3 Cousart led a balanced King's offense with 13.4 points, 6.6 rebounds, and 4.4 assists per-game while scoring in double-figures in 17 of the 25 games he played in this season. He posted a career-high 27 points November 11 against Albright and equaled his career-high of 11 rebounds December 22 against Misericordia.

Cousart has converted on 45.2 (108-239) percent of his shots from the floor and 75.3 (110-146) percent from the foul line. Cousart dished out a season-high eight assists on four different occasions during the year. A three-year starter with the Monarchs, Cousart has totaled 868 points, 460 rebounds, and 317 assists.

A 6-4 junior power forward, Scalzo follows with 12.6 points and 4.5 rebounds with 17 three-pointers, while reaching double-figures in scoring in 18 of the 25 games he has appeared in. Scalzo has made 53.0 (114-215) percent of his shots from the field as well as 42.5 (17-40) percent from three-point range.

He has season highs of 20 points January 17 against Lycoming, eight rebounds January 31 versus Scranton, and seven assists January 27 against Delaware Valley. In his three-years as a starter at King's, Scalzo has totaled 957 points, 393 rebounds, and 154 assists.

"We are happy for Jamie and Vince as they both had excellent years for us," King's coach J.P. Andrejko stated. "Jamie had a great year and his strength continues to be his versatility. His scoring, rebounding, and assist numbers are always among the top player sin the conference and his contributions to what we do are numerous.  Vince started out a little slow but got better and better as the year went on. He played especially well in conference games and was consistent game in and game out in league play."
