KING'S MEN POST IMPORTANT 80-40 WIN AT DREW
MADISON, NJ -- Nearly three weeks ago, the King's
College men's basketball struggled at home to escape with a 62-55
victory over Drew University. On Saturday in Madison, NJ, the
Monarchs would leave nothing to doubt as King's posted a dominating
80-40 victory over Drew in an important Freedom Conference matchup in
Baldwin Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 16-7 overall and remain in sole
possession of first-place in the Freedom Conference at 10-2. Drew,
meanwhile, slipped to 9-13 and 4-8 in league action.
The Monarchs rode the hot shooting of junior forward Ryan Nenstiel who
came off the bench to score 16 first-half points, going 6-for-6 over the
first 20 minutes of play as King's opened up a 41-20 halftime lead and
never looked back.
Nenstiel, who played two seasons at Division II Bloomsburg University
before eventually transferring to King's in January, finished the game
with a King's career-high 21 points and was 8-of-10 from the floor while
canning five three-pointers.
It was an otherwise workmanlike effort for the Monarchs who were able to
substitute freely throughout. King's used 16 players in the game
with 13 Monarchs reaching the coring column.
Jamie Cousart added 11 points, four rebounds, and four assists while
Vince Scalzo and Bon Nenstiel netted nine and eight points respectively.
King's shot 60.8 (31-51) percent from the field while making 64.3
(9-of-14) from three-point range.
Drew was led by Chris Lopez with six points while
Scott Miller and Bill Marano added five each.
King's returns to action Saturday when the
Monarchs visit cross-town rival Wilkes at 8:00 p.m. in the Marts Center
