MONARCH MEN DEFEAT LYCOMING 79-61 TO REMAINING IN
SOLE POSSESSION OF FIRST PLACE
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's
basketball team used a balanced attack as seven players scored at least
eight points each as the Monarchs posted a 79-61 victory over visiting
Lycoming College Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
The victory improved King's to 15-7 overall and 9-2 in Freedom
Conference play. Lycoming slipped to 11-11 and 4-7.
King's would open up a 33-24 half-time lead and was never seriously
threatened in the second half as the Warriors would draw no closer than
10 points at any point during the final 20 minutes of play.
Jamie Cousart led King's with 16 points, five rebounds. Vince Scalzo
tallied 13 points, seven rebounds, and six assists while Kofi Dwebeng
netted 12 points with two assists. John Soboleski registered nine points
and eight rebounds, while Ryan and Bob Nenstiel also added nine points
each. Vince Sobocinski chipped in with eight points as the Monarchs shot
56.0 (28-50) percent from the field for the game.
Lycoming was led by Kevin Morris with 15 points and six rebounds while
David Wilson added 13 points. Rickey Varnell netted 10 points and eight
boards while Jermayne Nowlin chipped in with 11 points.
King's will return to action Saturday at 3:0 p.m.
in Madison, NJ against Drew University.
