SLUGGISH KING'S MEN HOLD OFF DREW, 62-55

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's basketball team overcame its most sluggish effort of the second semester, but the Monarchs held off a game Drew University squad to post a 62-55 victory Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 12-6 overall and 6-1 in Freedom Conference play. Drew, meanwhile slipped to 7-10 and 2-5.

King's appeared to have control early in the second half when the Monarchs built a 40-27 lead on a Kofi Dwebeng three-pointer with 17:12 left in the contest. But the Monarchs' shooting would go cold as King's would score just six points over the next 11:10 as Drew cut the lead to 46-43 on a pair of foul shots from David Cramer with 6:20 left in the contest. Dwebeng would then hit a short jumper to give the Monarchs a 48-43 advantage with 6:10 on the clock. A traditional three-point play by Vince Scalzo would extend the King's advantage to 51-43 with 4:42 remaining.

But Drew responded and cut the lead to 56-53 when Ryan Eisner made one-of-two foul shots with 1:33 on the clock. King's would close out the game when Vince Sobocinski, Jamie Cousart, and John Soboleski combined to make six straight foul shots over the final 0:29 of the game.
