MONARCH MEN EARN HUGE ROAD WIN AT FDU, 78-75, WIN
5TH STRAIGHT WHILE SNAPPING DEVILS SIX-GAME WIN STREAK
MADISON, NJ -- John Soboleski made a pair of foul
shots with 0:03 left to break up a tied game as the King's College men's
basketball team rallied from a 16-point second half deficit to post a
critical 78-75 road victory over FDU-Florham Saturday in Madison, NJ.
In the process, the Monarchs won their fifth straight game while
improving to 11-6 overall and 5-1 in the Freedom Conference. FDU, which
saw its six-game win streak come to an end, slipped to 12-5 and 4-2 in
league play.
King's took a 42-41 lead into the half-time break, but FDU came out of
the locker room and took control immediately. The Devils would outscore
King's 26-9 over the first 8:21 of the second half and built a 67-51
lead on a Frank Emslie bucket with 11:39 remaining.
The Monarchs would use a 7-0 surge to cut the lead to 67-58 on a
three-pointer by Ryan Nenstiel with 9:48 left. FDU, however, would push
the lead back to 72-58 on a three-pointer by Brandon Matano with 8:54 on
the clock.
The Monarchs would not fold, however, and Vince Scalzo and Jim Welsh
would begin the comeback with back-to-back three-pointers to bring
King's to within 72-64 with 8:03 left. After an FDU turnover, Scalzo was
fouled and converted both shots to cut the margin to 72-66 with 7:28 on
the clock. Neither team would score again until the 5:01 mark when Vince
Sobocinski made a pair of foul shots to narrow the FDU advantage to
72-68. After another FDU miss, Soboleski was fouled inside and made
one-of-two attempts to cut he lead to 72-69 with 3:39 remaining. FDU
would miss on a three-pointer and the Monarchs would take advantage when

72-72.
After the teams traded misses, FDU took a 73-72 lead with 1:20 left when
Brian Rimol made one-of-two foul shots. The Monarchs would take its
first lead since 19:02 of the second half when Kofi Dwebeng made good on
a short jumper to give King's a 74-73 lead with 1:06 remaining. After an
FDU miss, Jamie Cousart was fouled while rebounding the errant shot and
converted one-of-two foul shots to put King's ahead 75-73 with 0:31
left.
The Devils would tie the score at 75-75 when Emslie was fouled with 0:25
remaining and made both free throws. After a time out, King's would work
the ball down low to Soboleski who was fouled while shooting with 0:03
on the clock. The Monarchs junior would make good on both shots to give
King's a 77-75 lead. The Devils would throw up a desperation
three-pointer that missed and Cousart would secure the rebound and was
fouled just prior to the buzzer, making one-of-two shots to end the
game.
Cousart topped the Monarchs with 20 points, eight assists, and seven
rebounds while Scalzo added 16 points and five boards. Dwebeng tallied
10 points while Soboleski contributed nine points and eight boards. Ryan

13-of-19 from the charity stripe.
