KING'S MEN DEFEAT DELAWARE VALLEY

WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's basketball team continued its solid team play as the Monarchs received yet another balanced effort in downing visiting Delaware Valley College 80-61 Saturday in Scandlon Gym.

With the win, King's improved to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in Freedom Conference play with its third straight victory and fifth win over the last six contests.

King's trailed just once in the game, at 7-5, but a three-pointer from Jim Welsh and a bucket down low from Vince Scalzo gave the Monarchs a 10-7 lead.  The Aggies made things interesting early on, trailing just 17-15 with 11:26 left in the half, but King's used a 15-6 run to build a 32-21 lead following a basket but Jamie Cousart with 5:05 on the clock. After a three-pointer by Eric Lawton brought Delaware Valley to within 32-24, the Monarchs closed out the half with a 12-4 surge to take a 44-28 lead into the locker room.

The Monarchs continued to control play in the second half and held leads of 23 points five occasions, the last coming after a Bob Nenstiel basket with 10:17 left to give King's a  61-38 advantage. The Aggies would draw no closer than 14 points the rest of the way.

Scalzo led King's with  18 points and six rebounds while converting 6-of-10 shots from the field.  Cousart followed with 14 points, six rebounds, and three assists while Nenstiel also tallied 14 points. Vince Sobocinski netted 11 points with four rebounds  while Ryan Nenstiel chipped in with seven points.

It marked the sixth time in the last seven games the Monarchs have had four players score in double-figures. King's also out rebounded Delaware valley 41-23 and shot 55.8 (29-52) percent from the floor for the game.

Isaiah Pinckney led Delaware Valley with 21 points and five assists, with 13 coming in the second half. Eric Lawton contributed with 13 points.

King's returns to action Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. when the Monarchs travel to Williamsport to face Lycoming College in another Freedom Conference game.
