MONARCHS FALL TO ELIZABETHTOWN, 73-56

WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Elizabethtown College shot 52.6 percent from the field and made a 16-point lead stand up as the Blue Jays posted a 73-56 over King's College in a non-conference men's basketball contest Monday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, Elizabethtown posted its second win of the season over the Monarchs to improve to 4-3 on the year. King's, meanwhile, slipped to 2-5.

The Blue Jays broke open the game midway through the first half. With King's leading 11-10 with 12:47 remaining in the half, Elizabethtown went on a 19-4 run to take a 29-15 lead on a bucket from Luke Ledyard with 2:53 left in the half.

After a three-point play from King's Thomas Moore cut the lead to 29-18 at 2:51, the Blue Jays ended the half with a 5-0 spurt thanks to a pair of foul shots, followed by a three-pointer from Brian Schreiber as Elizabethtown took a 34-18 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, the Monarchs would a 6-0 run thanks to four points from Jamie Cousart and a bucket from Moore to close to within 45-35 with 12:55 left in the contest, but Elizabethtown  would answer with a 9-2 run to rebuild the lead to 54-37 with 11:03 left.

King's would draw no closer than 12 points the remainder of the game.

Elizabethtown made 30-of-57 shots from the field, compared to just 35.5 (22-62) percent from the field for the Monarchs.

Vince Scalzo led King's with 15 points and nine rebounds while John Soboleski followed with 14 points and nine boards. Moore added nine points and five boards while Jamie Cousart came off the bench to contribute seven points, five assists, and four rebounds.

The Blue Jays were led by Brad Schreiber with 17 points and six rebounds while Brian Schreiber contributed 13 points and seven boards.

King's will next travel to face Baptist Bible College Thursday at 7:00 p.m. in Clarks Summit.
