BARUCH HANDS KING'S 81-77 SETBACK
NEW YORK, NY -- Baruch College took its first lead
of the game with just 0:50 remaining to post an 81-77 win over visiting
King's College Saturday in New York City.
With the win, Baruch improved to 3-1 while King's slipped to 1-3.
King's would take a 77-74 lead on a bucket by Vince Scalzo with 1:02
left, but Baruch would rally and hold the Monarchs scoreless the rest of
the game.
Chris Williams sank a pair of foul shots with 0:50 left to cut the lead
to 77-76. Williams then scored on a layup and was fouled to convert the
three-point play and give Baruch a 79-77 lead with 0:30 remaining.
After a King's miss with 0:15 left, Louie Karis and was fouled with 0:12
left and hit one-of-two charity tosses to up the lead to 81-77. After a
Monarch turnover, Karis was fouled with 0:03 remaining and made
one-of-two free throws to seal the victory.
King's was led by Scalzo with 16 points and eight rebounds while Jamie
Cousart added 12 points, four rebounds, seven assists, and two steals.
Jim Welsh netted 13 points while Vince Sobocinski and John Soboleski
chipped in with nine each.
Karis led all scorers with 23 points while Williams and Fadika added 16
and 15 respectively.
King's will travel to face cross-town rival Wilkes Wednesday at 8:00
p.m. in the Marts Center.
