KING'S CAGERS FALL TO ELIZABETHTOWN, 84-83
ELIZABETHTOWN -- The King's College men's basketball team nearly
overcame a 12-point halftime deficit but fell just short as the Monarchs
dropped an 84-83 decision to host Elizabethtown College in the
consolation game of the L.B. Smith Ford Blue Jay Classic Saturday in
Elizabethtown.
With the loss, King's fell to 0-2 on the year while Elizabethtown
improved to 1-1.
Elizabethtown scorched the nets in the first half, shooting at a 62.1
(18-29) percent clip as the Blue Jays built a 47-35 halftime lead. But
the Monarchs would battle back, thanks to the play of Vince Scalzo, who
netted a career-high 35 points in the contest. King's, however, would
run out of gas as the Blue Jays held on for the victory.
Scalzo, who was named to the all-tournament team. was 10-of-11 form the field and made 15-of-19 foul shots while
posting six rebounds. Thomas Moore added 17 points, five rebounds, and
three assists while Jamie Cousart netted 10 points with eight rebounds
and a career-high nine assists. Vince Sobocinski registered nine points
and five boards while Jim Welsh chipped in with six points.
Elizabethtown placed five players in double-figures, led by Brian
Schreiber with 19 points and six boards. Greg Brizek added 15 points
while Chad Piersol and Brad Schreiber netted 14 points each. Mike
Schatzmann chipped in with 11 points for the Blue Jays.
King's will return to action Tuesday when the Monarchs host College
Misericordia at 7:00 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium
