COUSART, SCALZO EARN ALL-FREEDOM HONORS

WILKES-BARRE 00 King's College men's basketball standouts Jamie Cousart and Vince Scalzo were named to the All-Freedom Conference squads, the Middle Atlantic Conferences Office announced Tuesday. Cousart was a first-team selection while Scalzo was a second-team choice.

The sophomore duo helped lead the Monarchs to a 17-8 record and the second seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament with an 11-3 mark. King's, which graduated three senior starters from its 2005 Freedom Conference championship squad, was picked to finish sixth this season in the conference's pre-season coaches poll.

A 6-3 points-guard, Cousart enjoyed an outstanding season as he led King's in scoring, rebounding, assists, and steals. In 24 games, Cousart averaged 14.6 points, 6/5 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.7 steals per-game. He also ranked third on the Monarchs with 17 blocked shots. Cousart made 46.1 (112-243) percent of his shots from the field as well as 75.5 (120-159) percent from the foul line.

Cousart also proved to be the most consistent scorer on the Monarchs squad, reaching double-figures in 20 of the 24 games he played in, including a career high 25 points November 22 against Misericordia. Scalzo also recorded the first triple double at King's in nearly 20 years with 18 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists February 28 against Delaware Valley.

Scalzo, a 6-4 forward, was second on the Monarch squad with 13.2 points per-game, while adding 5.2 rebounds and 2.0 assists. Scalzo shot a fine 53.1 (110-207) percent from the field and converted 74.2 (112-151) percent of his foul shots.

During the season, Scalzo posted career highs of 35 points November 19 against Elizabethtown, 11 rebounds against Lycoming on January 11, and six assists November 22 versus College Misericordia. He reached double-figures in scoring in 16 of the 25 games he played in.

"We are very happy for Jamie and Vince that they were recognized by the coaches for their efforts," King's coach J.P. Andrejko stated. "They came into the season having to step into leadership roles and there was a lot of uncertainty in the beginning of the year due to the inexperience we had. Obviously, considering where we were picked to finish in the beginning of the season, Jamie and Vince raised their level of play and became impact players."
