KING'S MEN HOSTING DESALES IN REMATCH OF 2005 FREEDOM CONFERENCE
TITLE GAME
WILKES-BARRE -- Bon Nenstiel posted team-highs of 19 points and
eight rebounds while Jamie Cousart added 16 points to power the King's
College men's basketball team to a 77-70 victory over DeSales
University in a rematch of the 2005 Freedom Conference title game
Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
King's posted its seventh straight win to improve to 9-6 overall and 3-1
in conference play. DeSales which saw its six-game win streak come
to an end, slipped to 9-4 and 1-3.
The Monarchs held a 15-8 lead with 13:50 left in the half but King's
went on a key 11-4 spurt to build a 26-12 advantage with 8:23 left after
a bucket from Cousart and a pair of foul shots by Jim Welsh. After
a DeSales three-pointer by Drew Christman, the Monarchs put together a
12-6 surge and stretched the lead to 38-21 with 4:34 remaining in the
half following a three-pointer from Thomas Moore and a pair of foul
shots by Cousart.
DeSales would close out the half with a 14-6 run capped by an
off-balance three-pointer by Jamie McCloskey which bounced high off the
rim, then through the net at the buzzer as the Bulldogs closed to within
39-28 at the break.
In the4 second half DeSales would chip away and closed to within 67-61
on a three-pointer from Mike Zinn with 3:35 left, but the Monarchs
answered with a 7-2 spurt as two straight foul shots by Cousart,
followed by two more from Nenstiel gave the Monarchs a 74-63 lead with
0:47 left.
Nenstiel made 8-of-9 field goals to lead the Monarch attack while
Cousart added five assists while going 10-of-13 from the foul line to
aid the Monarch cause.
Scalzo, who played with the flu, added 13 points while John Soboleski
contributed eight points, seven rebounds, and five assists. Thomas Moore
and Welsh chipped in with seven points each.
DeSales was paced by Christman with 24 points,
followed by Zinn and Ohlson with 10 each.
King's will travel to face the University of Scranton Wednesday at
