KING'S MEN DOWN LYCOMING, 71-55

WILKES-BARRE -- Jamie Cousart (left) scored 20 points, all in the second half, and Thomas Moore (below) put on a tremendous defensive display as the King's College men's basketball team posted a 71-55 victory over visiting Lycoming College Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

By posting its sixth straight win, King's improved to 8-6 overall and 2-1 in the MAC Freedom Conference.  Lycoming, meanwhile, fell to 7-7 and 1-2.

The first half was a closely played affair with Lycoming holding the largest lead at 25-18 with 6:04 left.  King's would cu the lead to 31-28 at the half on a Vince Sobocinski bucket with 0:37 left.

In the second half it was the Cousart show as the Monarch sophomore took over, converting 7-of-8 shots and making 6-of-8 shots from the foul line. Cousart was outstanding all-around with seven assists, five rebounds, and four steals.

With the score tied 39-39 with 15:33 remaining, Cousart score six straight points, followed by a bucket from Bob Nenstiel and a three-pointer by Shawn Swim to give the Monarchs a 50-42 lead with 11:25 on the clock.

Lycoming would close to within 50-46 on a Patrick Baylor basket, but King's quickly answered with a 10-0 spurt, capped by five consecutive points from John Soboleski as the Monarch lead grew to 60-46 with 7:01 on the clock.

King's would build its biggest lead at 68-49 after a traditional three-point play by Scalzo and a three-pointer from Kofi Dwebeng with 4:30 remaining.

Soboleski netted 10 points to join Cousart as the only other Monarch in double-figures.  But the Monarchs had plenty of support as Dwebeng netted nine points while Scalzo also posted nine points with a game-high 11 rebounds. Nenstiel added eight points and four boards.

But the unsung hero for King's was Moore who scored seven points and dished out four assists. However, the Monarch senior gave a tremendous defensive effort on Lycoming start Jonathan Pribble who averaged over 20 points per-game entering the contest.  Moore dogged Pribble for most of the contest and held the 6-5 senior star to just five points on 1-of-8 shooting in 31 minutes of action.

Greg Sye led Lycoming with 15 points while Patrick Baylor added 10.

The King's men will return home Saturday with a 3:00 p.m. conference game against DeSales University.
