HORGAN, SCALZO NET CAREER HIGHS AS KING'S POSTS 97-70 WIN OVER BBC 

WILKES-BARRE -- Senior forward Brian Horgan scored a career-high 35 points while freshman forward Vince Scalzo also added a career-best 20 to lead the King's College men's basketball team to a 97070 victory over Baptist Bible College Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 7-1 on the year while BBC slipped to 5-3.

Horgan put on an uncanny offensive display in the first half, netting 26 points on 10-for-10 shooting, including 5-of-5 from three-point range.  Scalzo added 10 points while Landon Gabriel netted eight as the Monarchs took a 55-33 lead into the locker room.

In the second half, King's extended the lead to 64-37 before Horgan went to the bench with his fourth foul with 16:59 remaining.  The Monarchs would maintain a 73-47 lead on a pair of foul shots from Jim Welsh with 11:19 left but the defenders would go on a 12-0 run to cut the lead to 73-59 on a pair of foul shots from Jon Konzelman and a three-pointer from Nate Francis with 7:06 left.

Horgan would then reenter the game and the Monarchs regrouped to counter with a 17-7 spurt.  Scalzo and Horgan scored five points each in the run while  Marty O'Hora added a basket and two foul shots as the Monarchs forged ahead 90-66 with 2:55 remaining.

Horgan finished the game 14-of-16 from the field and 6-of-7 from three-point range in surpassing his previous career best of 28 points set on two occasions. Horgan also added six blocked shots, four rebounds, and three assists.

Scalzo was 6-of-10 from the field while going 8-for-8 from the charity stripe and snaring a team-high eight boards. Gabriel finished with 15 points while Thomas Moore was solid with nine points, five rebounds, and four assists. 

Baptist Bible was led by Nate Francis with 22 points while Konzelman added 20.

King's will be idle until hosting the annual Ramada Inn/Monarch Classic December 29-30.  The Monarchs will be joined by 2004 "Final Four" qualifier John Carroll University, along with Adrian (Mi) College and Alfred (NY) University.
