HORGAN'S 29 RALLIES MONARCHS TO WIN OVER MISERICORDIA

WILKES-BARRE -- Brian Horgan scored 24 of his game-high 29 points in the second half as the King's College men's basketball team posted a come-from-behind 78-69 victory over host College Misericordia Tuesday at the Anderson center in Dallas.

With the win, the Monarchs improved to 3-0 while Misericordia slipped to 1-2.

Both teams struggled to find a rhythm offensively in the first half as officials called a combined 21 fouls, 11 on Misericordia and 10 on King's.  The Monarchs managed to take a 36-28 lead into the locker room as freshman Jamie Cousart scored nine of his 12 points and senior Marty O'Hora netted eight of his 14 in the open stanza.

In the second half, King's came out flat and Misericordia took advantage and took a 41-40 lead after just 4:05 of play.  The Cougars would continue to execute on both ends of the floor and took a 55-45 lead on two three-pointers from Josh Kendrick with 10:28 remaining.

King's, however would chip away and tied the score at 63-63 with 4:49 left on a bucket by Horgan.  The Monarchs would close out the game with a 15-6 spurt on a pair of three-pointers from Horgan and a huge trey by Landon Gabriel with 0:48 left as the shot clock expired to seal the victory.

Horgan added eight rebounds, two assists, and three steals.  O'Hora, who was plagued with foul trouble the entire game, netted 14 points with five rebounds before fouling out with just under 5:00 remaining and played a total of just 18 minutes in the contest.

Cousart finished with 12 points and seven rebounds while Gabriel added 11 points and six assists. Freshman Jim Welsh chipped in with seven points, all in the first half.

King's will return to action Monday when the Monarchs make their home debut against Chestnut Hill College at 7:30 p.m. in Scandlon Gymnasium.
