KING'S MEN RETURN TO WIN COLUMN WITH 77-62
WIN AT FDU-FLORHAM
MADISON, NJ -- Freshman forward Vince Scalzo led four double-figure
scorers with 14 points and 10 rebounds as the King's College men's
basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a 77-62 Freedom
Conference road victory Wednesday at FDU-Florham.
With the win, King's improved to 13-4 overall and 4-2 in conference play
while FDU fell to 7-9 and 2-4.
King's started quickly and built a 19-8 lead with 11:59 remaining n
the first half on a three-pointer from Brian Horgan. The Devils
would creep back to get within 33-26 on a Cody Chalmers three-point
bucket, but Jim Welsh would counter with a three-pointer of his own to
spark an 11-0 run by the Monarchs. Landon Gabriel added a
three-pointer with 0:47 on the clock as King's took a comfortable 44-26
lead into the halftime break.
Scalzo was 5-of-6 from the field and hit 2-of-3 shots from three-point
range. John Soboleski scored a season-high 12 points while Gabriel
added 11 points and three assists. Horgan chipped in with 10 points and
six rebounds while Thomas Moore netted nine points with five boards.
Chris Hendershot and Pierre Schmitt led FDU with 15 points each while
Chalmers and Jeff Hemschoot chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.
King's will next host Delaware Valley College Saturday at 3:00 p.m. in
Scandlon Gym.
