KING'S MEN FACE THE APPRENTICE SCHOOL

WILKES-BARRE -- Brian Horgan scored a game-high 24 points to lead four double-figure scorers as the King's College men's basketball team posted a hard-fought 67-62 victory over The Apprentice School in the second day of the Wilkes-Barre Challenge Sunday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

With the win, King's improved to 11-2 while The Apprentice School fell to 3-11.

The teams battled on virtually even terms in the first half as the Monarchs took a 27-26 lead into the locker room, keyed by eight points from Horgan and six from Vince Scalzo.

In the second stanza, King's would start off with a 25-11 run to build a 52-37 lead with 11:47 remaining thanks to 11 points from Horgan, five points from Scalzo and three-pointers from Landon Gabriel and Jamie Cousart.

The Builders would answer with a 18-7 run and cut the lead to 59-54 with 2:17 left on a bucket from Charles Holiday.

Scalzo then came up big with an offensive rebound when Horgan missed the front end of a one-and-one and drew a foul.  The Monarchs rookie canned both charity tosses to give King's a 61-55 advantage 0:49 left.

The Builders would elect to foul and Gabriel made four straight free throws whille O'Hora added two more to seal the victory

Horgan added a game0high 11 rebounds with two assists and two steals.  Scalzo followed with 13 points, including three treys.  O'Hora added 11 points and four assists while Gabriel chipped in with 10 points and two assists.

The Builders were led by Holiday with 18 points and four rebounds. Curtis Pender followed with 12 points and nine rebounds while Michael Dunston and Nate Robinson added 10 points each. 

Horgan and O'Hora were named to the all-tournament team while Holiday and Terrence Bryant were chosen from The Apprentice School. Wilkes Mike Constantine and Zach Straining of Alvernia were also selected.
