STOKES, HORGAN LEAD MONARCHS PAST LINCOLN

WILKES-BARRE -- Jamar Stokes and Brian Horgan both posted career highs of 32 and 28 points respectively as the King's College men's basketball team overcame a major size disadvantage to post a 97-76 victory over Lincoln University Monday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

Lincoln, which a massive frontcourt measuring 7-2, 6-9, and 6-6, jumped out to a 29-18 lead on a three-pointer by Jamal Johnson with 9:18 left in the half. The Monarchs would rally with a 29-10 run when Horgan netted 11 of his 14 first half points and Stokes added eight of his team-high 15 points in the opening stanza as King's took a 47-39 lead into the locker room.

The Monarchs (3-1) extended their lead to 15 points with a quick second-half spurt but Lincoln would battle back to within 57-49 on a three-point play by Alexis Perez with 15:08 remaining. King's responded with a 19-6 run keyed by nine points from Stokes, a pair of three-pointers by Horgan, and a short jumper by Dannie Evans as the Monarchs lead swelled to 76-55 with 8:48 left. The Lions would draw no closer than 16 points the remainder of the game.

Stokes made 13-of-17 field goals, including three three-pointers and five rebounds while Horgan hit 10-of-17 shots and sank 6-of-10 shots from long range. Evans added 12 points and four assists while Marty O'Hora added 11 points.

Andre Logan netted 18 points to pace Lincoln (1-4) while 6-5 guard Michael Kearse followed with 16 points. Sophomore John Bunch, a 7-2 center, had just five points but snared 13 rebounds and blocked eight shots. Linwood Gilmore, a 6-9 forward, added 10 points and seven rebounds for the Lions.

King's will next face an early-season MAC Freedom Conference showdown with cross-town foe Wilkes Wednesday at 8:00 p.m. in the Marts Center.
