KING'S SECOND-HALF RUN LEADS TO KEY WIN OVER
LYCOMING
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's basketball
team broke open a close game with a key run in the second half as the host
Monarchs posted an important 74-65 victory over Lycoming College in an MAC
Freedom Conference Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, the Monarchs improved to 12-2 overall
and 3-0 in conference play. Lycoming, which played a third straight game
without starting center Matt Stackhouse who underwent knee surgery
Wednesday morning, slipped to 8-4 and 1-1.
King's trailed 57-53 after Jonathan Pribble hit
consecutive three-pointers for Lycoming. But the Monarchs would answer
with a 13-0 run keyed when Jonathan Veet canned two three-pointers,
sandwiched around a trey from Brian Horgan with 3:55 left. Horgan, who
accounted for seven points in the run, added a pair of foul shots as
King's built a 66-57 lead with 2:10 remaining.
The Warriors would trim the lead to 66-61 on a buck
by L.J. Huggler but with Lycoming forced to foul, Horgan tossed in a pair
of foul shots to extend the margin to 67-61 with 1:17 left. King's would
convert six of eight foul shots in the remaining time to win its sixth
straight game.
Horgan scored a game-high 21 points and added four
rebounds and three steals. Jamar Stokes followed with 15 points and six
rebounds. Dannie Evans added 10 points, including a pair of three-pointers
in the second half. Britt Moore chipped in with six points and seven
rebounds while Veet finished with eight crucial points off the bench.
Pribble led Lycoming with 17 points while Huggler
and Jeremiah Edison each scored 10. Curtis Mays had a solid game off the
bench for the Warriors with four points and game-high 11 rebounds.
King's will next venture to Center Valley to face
MAC Freedom pre-season favorite DeSales University Saturday at 3:00 p.m.
