MONARCH MEN FALL TO HOT SHOOTING DESALES,
74-56
CENTER VALLEY -- A red hot DeSales
University men's basketball team netted the third most three-point field
goals in one game in MAC history as the Bulldogs posted a 74-56 victory
over King's College in a Freedom Conference matchup Saturday in Center
Valley.
With the loss, the Monarchs fell to 12-7
overall and 5-3 in conference play. DeSales improved to 15-3 and 6-2.
King's played a solid first half in
shooting 62.5 (15-24) percent from the field but trailed 41-35 at the
break as DeSales hit 53.3 (8-15) percent from three-point range.
In the second half, offense faltered as
King's made just 6-of-25 percent of their shots while the Bulldogs
continued to dominate from long range. The Bulldogs shot even better from
three point range in the second half as they made 58.3 (7-12) percent of
their long range bombs.
The Monarchs trailed 44-39 with 18:06 left
in the contest when DeSales went on a 19-6 run. The Monarchs were unable
to guard the Bulldogs who sat four players on the outside waiting for open
three-point looks. Five of the Bulldogs seven baskets in the spurt were
from three-point range with all five coming from a different player.
Dannie Evans and Dave marks has 12 points
each for King's while Steve Hite added 10 points. Jeff Clifford netted 20
points for the Bulldogs while Mike Venafra and David Spadt canned 12 and
11 points respectively.
King's will next host Drew Wednesday at
8:00 p.m.
