MONARCH MEN DOWN LYCOMING, 87-81
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's
College men's basketball team thrust itself squarely into the MAC Freedom
Conference picture as the Monarchs posted a 87-81 victory over visiting
Lycoming College Wednesday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 10-5 overall and 4-1 in conference play.
Lycoming fell to 9-7 and 4-1 in MAC Freedom action.
With Scranton posting a 57-53 win at DeSales, King's is deadlocked in a
four-way tie for first place as The Monarchs, Lycoming, Scranton, and
DeSales all stand at 4-1 in league play.
Leading 35-33 early in the second half, the Monarchs went on a 14-2 run,
keyed by 10 points from Marty O'Hora as the Monarchs built a 49-35
advantage with 16:11 to play. Lycoming would close to within 54-45
with 13:16 left on a bucket by Brad Musser, but King's countered with a
17-7 spurt to extend the lead to 71-52 with 8:11 left. Dannie Evans
and Dave Marks scored five points each in the run.
The Warriors would attempt to rally and closed to within 77-74 with 2:37
remaining, but King's would make six of seven foul shots down the stretch
to hold on.
Evans and O'Hora scored 19 to pace King's while Kasim Holloman added
18. Marks chipped in with 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Lycoming was led by Matt Stackhouse with 20 points, 11 rebounds, and six
blocks, while Jonathan Pribble. Kings held Lycoming standout guard Thomas
Wesner to just five points on 2-of-10 shooting.
