KING'S DEFEATS NEUMANN TO CLAIM RAMADA INN TITLE

WILKES-BARRE -- Dannie Evans scored a game-high 21 points and Kasim Holloman added 16 to earn most valuable player honors as the King's College men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 83-76 victory over Neumann College in the championship game of the Ramada Inn/Monarch Classic Sunday in Scandlon Gymnasium.

Evans, who also earned all-tournament honors, canned three big three-pointers in the second half and tallied 11 points over the final 20 minutes of the game.

With the score tied at 67-67 with 5:54 remaining, King's took the lead for good on a bucket by Thomas Moore. Evans followed with a crucial three-pointer, then found Jonathan Veet with a long transition basket to put the Monarchs on top 74-67 with 2:39 left.

After Neumann made one of two foul shots, King's Dave Marks converted a pair of free throws, then later scored on a monster fast-break dunk to give King's a 77-68 lead with 1:38 left.

Marty O'Hora enjoyed a stellar game for King's (6-3) with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Veet added nine points and six rebounds. Britt Moore and Marks each chipped in with seven points.
