KING'S DEFEATS NEUMANN TO CLAIM RAMADA INN TITLE
WILKES-BARRE -- Dannie Evans scored a game-high 21
points and Kasim Holloman added 16 to earn most valuable player honors as
the King's College men's basketball team earned a hard-fought 83-76
victory over Neumann College in the championship game of the Ramada
Inn/Monarch Classic Sunday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
Evans, who also earned all-tournament honors, canned
three big three-pointers in the second half and tallied 11 points over the
final 20 minutes of the game.
With the score tied at 67-67 with 5:54 remaining, King's took the lead for
good on a bucket by Thomas Moore. Evans followed with a crucial
three-pointer, then found Jonathan Veet with a long transition basket to
put the Monarchs on top 74-67 with 2:39 left.
After Neumann made one of two foul shots, King's Dave Marks converted a
pair of free throws, then later scored on a monster fast-break dunk to
give King's a 77-68 lead with 1:38 left.
Marty O'Hora enjoyed a stellar game for King's (6-3)
with 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Veet added nine points and six
rebounds. Britt Moore and Marks each chipped in with seven points.
Neumann (7-6) was led by Omar Warthen with 18
points, 12 rebounds, and five blocked shots. Rahim Washington added 17
points, while Randy Maultsby chipped in with 12 points. Warthen and
Washington were also named to the all-tournament team.
In the consolation game, Susquehanna posted a 90-67
victory over Salisbury. Nick Griffith of Susquehanna and Salisbury's John
Wulff were also named to the all-tournament team.
King's will next travel to Baptist Bible College
Thursday at 7:00 p.m.
