KING'S MEN FALL TO HOT-SHOOTING F&M IN ECAC
SOUTHERN REGION FINAL, 82-65
LANCASTER -- Duran Searles led four double-figure
scorers with 20 points as
hot-shooting
host Franklin and Marshall College canned 59.2 percent of their
shots en route to a 82-65 victory over
King's College in the Eastern College Athletic
Conference Menšs Southern Region championship game Sunday at the
Mayser Center in Lancaster.
The top-seeded Diplomats scorched the nets with
their hot shooting and took
a
43-34 lead into the half-time break.
Searles led the way with 14 points as he
drained 4-of-5 three-point field goals
in the opening 20 minutes. F&M connected
on an outstanding 61.5 (16-26) percent of their shots in the first
half to outgun the second-seeded
Monarchs who were also excellent in hitting 55.6
(15-27) of their attempts from the field but still trailed by nine at
the break.
In the second half, F&M remained in the zone in
hitting 56.5 (13-23) percent
of
their shots to outscore Kingšs 39-31 over the remainder of the contest.
Alex Kraft, Steve Juskin, and Jackiem Wright chipped
in with 14, 12, and 11
points
respectively.
King's was led by senior power forward Dennis Hobbs
who ended his career
with
a season-high 27-point effort for the Monarchs. Dave Marks followed
with 11 points and five rebounds while
Brian Horgan chipped in with 10 points
and five boards. Steve Hite netted nine
points and a team-high six rebounds.
The Monarchs of rookie coach J.P. Andrejko concluded
their campaign with a
22-7
mark while establishing a new school record for victories in one
season.
F&M ended their season with a 24-5 mark.
