MONARCH MEN FALL TO DREW, 62-58
Madison, NJ -- The King's College men's basketball
team failed to make a
12-point
half-time lead stand up as the Monarchs fell 62-58 to Drew University
in a crucial MAC Freedom Conference game in Madison, NJ.
King's which took a 24-12 lead into the half-time
break, was outscored by
Drew
50-34 over the course of the gamešs final 20 minutes. Drew battled
back to
take its first lead of the game at 44-42 with 6:13 remaining on a basket
by Mike Machin.
The Monarchs recaptured a 45-44 lead on a three-pointer by Emmet
Donnelly. But Drew countered quickly
when Ernsto Gulliaume scored to put the Rangers
on top for good at 46-45 with 5:34 left.
With King's trailing 54-51 with 2:09 left, the
Monarchs cut the lead to one
points
on a bucket by Brian Horgan. But The Rangers answered when Diego
Reino scored to push the margin back to
three points with 0:52 left. After a
King's miss, the Monarchs were forced to
foul and the Rangers converted 6-of-8
over the final seconds to secure the win.
King's was led by Dennis Hobbs with 14 points and 10
rebounds. Dannie Evans
added
13 points while Steve Hite chipped in with eight points and 11
rebounds. Drew was paced by Reino with
17 points. Matt Novak added 12 points while
Machin, Pete Boyer, and Brad Greenman chipped in with 10 points each.
With the loss, King's falls to 15-5 overall and 5-4
in MAC Freedom action.
Drew
improved to 9-10 and 4-5.
The Monarchs will return to action Saturday when
King's hosts arch-rival
Scranton
at 4:00 p.m. as part of an important MAC Freedom menšs and women's
doubleheader in Scandlon Gymnasium.
