MEN'S BASKETBALL POSTS 80-61 WIN OVER BARUCH
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College men's
basketball team raced out to an 18-2 lead and never looked back as the
Monarchs posted a 81-60 win over Baruch College in the Monarchs' home
debut Saturday in Scandlon Gymnasium.
With the win, King's improved to 4-3 while Baruch slipped to 3-5.
King's led by as many as 22 points in the first half as Monarch coach
played 11 different players during the opening 20 minutes of play.
Baruch would close to within 38-25 at the half and whittled the King's
advantage to 45-34 with 16:10 remaining. But the Monarchs would
back-to-back three pointers from Mike Wagner and Ryan Nenstiel to
stretch the lead back to 57-36 with 13:23 left.
A total of 13 different players scored for the Monarchs, paced by Vince
Scalzo with 13 points, six rebounds, and five assists. John Soboleski
followed with 12 points and eight rebounds while freshman Kevin Conroy
added 10 points and five boards. Jamie Cousart chipped in with nine
points, four rebounds, and three assists while Wagner tallied seven for
King's.
Lionel Hilaire led Baruch with 12 points while Phil Schatz added 10 for
the Bearcats.
King's will be idle unto December 18-19 when the Monarch Classic is
hosted in Scandlon Gymnasium.
