KING'S SOBOLESKI NAMED MAC FREEDOM PLAYER OF THE WEEK

WILKES-BARRE -- King's College men's basketball standout John Soboleski has been named the MAC Freedom Conference "Player of the Week".

Soboleski came through with a big week for King’s as the Monarchs went 2-0 with a pair of Freedom Conference victories. Soboleski played a prominent role as the Monarchs handed DeSales their first conference loss with a 74-66 win. In the game Soboleski scored a game-high 20 points with seven rebounds and four blocks, while shutting down DeSales leading scorer, 2007 first-team All-Freedom Conference center Phil Stricker, who was limited to eight points.

In a 62-60 road win over Arcadia, Soboleski posted a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Additionally, with the game tied 55-55 with 2:21 left, he scored three of King’s final five points while hauling down a pair of rebounds, one being an offensive rebound off a missed foul shot that resulted in a Soboleski assist on a lay-up, giving King’s a 60-57 lead with 0:21 remaining. He also added a defensive rebound with 0:08 left to seal the victory.

For the week, Soboleski averaged 16.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.5 blocks, and 1.5 assists. He also shot 52.6 percent from the field. Soboleski, who entered the week making just 49-percent from the foul line for the season, stepped up in the clutch, making 70.6 (12-of-17) of his foul shots for the week.
