MEN'S BASKETBALL EDGES
ARCADIA, 62-60
GLENSIDE -- The King's College men's
basketball team broke open a 55-55 tie with2:21 remaining with a 7-2
surge and held on to post a 62-60 victory over host Arcadia University
Saturday in Glenside.
With the win, King's improved to 13-8 overall and 6-3 in the Freedom
Conference. Arcadia, meanwhile, fell to 9-12 and 3-5 in league play.
With the score tied at 55-55, King's took a 56-55 lead when John
Soboleski made-of-two foul shots to give the Monarchs a lead it would
never relinquish. After an Arcadia turnover, Soboleski was fouled
and made both attempts to put the Monarchs ahead 58-55 with 1:06
remaining. Kevin Brown would bring the Knights to within
58-57 with a bucket down low with 0:31 left.
After King's Kofi Dwebeng missed the front end of a one-and-one with
0:24 remaining, Soboleski would snare an important offensive rebound for
King's and dished off to Jim Schule for a lay-up with 0:21 remaining as
King's lead grew to 60-27.
Eric Elliot would draw a foul for Arcadia with 0:08 on the clock but
missed the front end of a one-and-one as Soboleski pulled down the
rebound. Schule was fouled with 0:03 left and made both charity tossed
to give the Monarchs a 62-57 lead. Arcadia would hit a three-pointer at
the buzzer to bring the final score to 62-60.
Ryan Nenstiel led King's with 18 points off the bench, including six
three-pointers. Soboleski registered a double-double with 12 points and
10 rebounds. Jim Welsh had nine points while Schule chipped in with
eight. Jamie Cousart chipped in with five points and nine rebounds.
Bobby Mulholland led Arcadia with 14 points while Sterling Green added
13. Elliott chipped in with six points and nine rebounds.
The Monarchs return to action Wednesday with a 7:00 p.m. game at Penn
College in Williamsport.
