KING'S BASEBALL FALLS TO KEYSTONE 2-1
WILKES-BARRE -- Visiting Keystone College score a pair of
unearned runs in the sixth inning to post a 2-1 victory over host
King's College Thursday at Betzler Fields.
With the win,
Keystone improved to 20-4 on the year while the Monarchs fell to
23-9.
King's took a 1-0 lead in the third when Matt Livoy drew a leadoff
walk and stole second base. After a single by J.R. Graver moved
Livoy to third, the Monarch junior would score on a sacrifice fly by
Jon Venarchick.
With King's starting pitcher Caleb Calarco cruising along, things
turned bad for the Monarchs in the sixth when a pair of one-out
errors resulted in two Keystone runs.
The Monarchs, however, would miss out on a golden opportunity in the
bottom half of the sixth when King's had runners at first and second
with one out and were unable to score.
The Monarchs last chance came in the ninth when Jeremy Faust was hit
by a pitch with one, but a strikeout and fly ball ended the game.
Both teams struggled offensive as each squad as each squad mustered
just four hits each.
Calarco, who had two of King's base hits, was the hard luck loser on
the mound, allowing just three hits and two unearned runs with five
strikeouts in seven innings of work.
Brett Repard picked up the win in relief for Keystone while Yadiel
Lanzo earned the save with two innings of hitless relief.
King's will host Arcadia University Friday at 4:00 p.m. at Betzler
Fields.
