KING'S POUNDS OUT 24 HITS IN 19-6 VICTORY OVER SCRANTON
(Moskowitz Goes 5-for-6 in First Career Start)

WILKES-BARRE  -- Sophomore Phil Moskowitz (left) went 5-of-6 in his first career start to lead a 24-hit attack as the King's College baseball team opened its three-game weekend series against the University of Scranton with a 19-6 victory Friday at Betzler Fields.

With the win, King's improved to 20-5 overall and 11-3 in the Freedom Conference.  Scranton, meanwhile, slipped to 8-17 and 3-6.

The Monarchs held a 7-1 lead enter the fifth inning when the Royals scored three runs to close to within 7-4.  King's would put the game away with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, two in the sixth, and four more in the seventh to build a commanding 17-4 advantage.

Moskowitz, who stepped in for All-Freedom Conference outfielder Mike Venarchick in left field, popped up to first base in his first plate appearance, but then rattled off five straight hits, including a sixth-inning double while scoring four times and driving in three runs.

Caleb Calarco was 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBI while Jon Venarchick was 4-for-6 with a double, triple, and four RBI. J.R. Graver finished 3-for-5 and scored four runs while Jeremy Faust and Vince Budzyn chipped in with two hits each.

Freshman Ryan Tychinski was credited with the win in relief for the Monarchs, pitching two and one-third inning of scoreless relief.

Scranton had seven hits in the game, one each by seven different players. Mike Graziano had an RBI double in the fifth inning while Chris Psihoules added an RBI double, also in the fifth.

King's and Scranton will resume the series Saturday at 1:00 p.m. with a doubleheader at Connell Park in Scranton.
