KING'S POUNDS OUT 24 HITS IN 19-6 VICTORY
OVER SCRANTON
(Moskowitz Goes 5-for-6 in First Career Start)
WILKES-BARRE --
Sophomore Phil Moskowitz (left) went 5-of-6 in his first
career start to lead a 24-hit attack as the King's College baseball
team opened its three-game weekend series against the University of
Scranton with a 19-6 victory Friday at Betzler Fields.
With the win, King's improved to 20-5 overall and 11-3 in the
Freedom Conference. Scranton, meanwhile, slipped to 8-17 and
3-6.
The Monarchs held a 7-1 lead enter the fifth inning when the Royals
scored three runs to close to within 7-4. King's would put the
game away with four runs in the bottom of the fifth, two in the
sixth, and four more in the seventh to build a commanding 17-4
advantage.
Moskowitz, who stepped in for All-Freedom Conference outfielder Mike
Venarchick in left field, popped up to first base in his first plate
appearance, but then rattled off five straight hits, including a sixth-inning double while scoring four times and driving in three runs.
Caleb Calarco was 4-for-5 with three doubles and five RBI while Jon
Venarchick was 4-for-6 with a double, triple, and four RBI. J.R.
Graver finished 3-for-5 and scored four runs while Jeremy Faust and
Vince Budzyn chipped in with two hits each.
Freshman Ryan Tychinski was credited with the win in relief for the
Monarchs, pitching two and one-third inning of scoreless relief.
Scranton had seven hits in the game, one each by seven different
players. Mike Graziano had an RBI double in the fifth inning while
Chris Psihoules added an RBI double, also in the fifth.
King's and Scranton will resume the series Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
with a doubleheader at Connell Park in Scranton.
