KING'S BASEBALL TEAM POUNDS OUT 22 HITS IN 16-3 WIN OVER MARYWOOD

SCRANTON -- Visiting King's College broke open a close game with six runs in the eighth inning and added five more in the ninth to pull away from host Marywood University 16-3 Wednesday in a non-conference baseball contest in Scranton.

With the win, the Monarchs won their 11 straight game to improve to 18-3 on the year while the Pacers fell to 11-11.
 
The Monarchs, who belted 22 hits on the day, took an early 4-1 lead but Marywood got back into the game with a two-run sixth to find themselves down 5-3.  King's, who used five different pitchers on the day, settled down and used a pair of big back-to-back innings in the eighth and ninth to walk away with the win.
 
King's got hits from eleven different players on the afternoon, led by Jon Venarchick with a 5-for-7 performance at the plate.  J.R. Graver went 3-for-7 with two doubles and three RBI, while Mike Venarchick (2-for-5) and Josh Faust (2-for-4)each picked up a pair of RBI.  Caleb Calarco was 2-for-5 with an RBI; Josh Faust was 2-for-4 with two RBI; Jeremy Faust went 2-for-5 with one RBI while Pat McGlynn finished 2-for-5.

King's used five different pitchers in the contest. Ryan Tychinski started the game and went three innings, allowing one unearned run, striking out one, while scattering three hits.  Aaron Deroba followed, pitching two and one-third innings, allowing two earned runs while striking out three batters. John McNichol, Joe Jenkins, and Mark Yankowski combined to allow just one hit with six strikeouts over the final two and two-thirds innings.
 
Dan D'Antonio led the Pacer bats, going 1-4 with an RBI double.  Bill Hall also added a double, while Matt Fidati had a triple for his only hit of the afternoon. Korey Evans (2-5) took the loss, allowing four runs over the first three innings of work.  

King's will return to action Friday at 3:30 p.m. when the Monarchs host DeSales University in the first of a three-game weekend set in a rematch of the 2006 Freedom Conference championship won by King's.  The teams will also play a doubleheader Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Center Valley
