KING'S BASEBALL SWEEPS DUBUQUE
PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA -- The King's College baseball team improved to
6-1 on the year as the Monarchs posted a double-header sweep of Dubuque
College Friday in Port Charlotte, Fla.
King's won the first game 12-6 before taking the nightcap 11-3.
In the opener, Jon Venarchick led the way by going 3-for-5 with four
RBI, including a three-run home run and a triple while scoring three
runs. J. R. Graver also enjoyed a big game with a 3-for-5 showing,
including two runs and a double. Mike Venarchick was also 3-for-5 with
two runs scored while Jeremy Faust went 3-for-3 with an RBI.
Caleb Calarco was 2-for-3 with an RBI while Pat McGlynn was 2-for-3.
Vince Budzyn chipped in by going 2-for-4 with an RBI. Paul
Giovannoli picked up the complete-game pitching victory, allowing eight
hits with four strikeouts in seven innings of work.
In the nightcap, King's belted nine extra base hits, including seven
doubles, one triple, and a home run. Matt Livoy was 3-fofr-4 with
an RBI double while Graver went 2-for-5 with a double, triple, RBI, and
scored three runs. Jeremy Faust had a two-run double while twin brother
Josh Faust added an RBI double. Calarco was 1-for-2 with a pair of RBI
while Mike Venarchick contributed an RBI single. Budzyn also added a
double to the mix.
Freshman Gracjan Kraszewski chipped in with a pinch-hit two-run home run
in the seventh inning. Rookie hurler Eric Matula won his
collegiate debut, allowing five hits and one earned run with two
strikeouts in five innings of work.
King's wraps up its southern trip Saturday with a 9:30 a.m. doubleheader
against Wittenberg College.
