KING'S BASEBALL SWEEPS BETHANY LUTHERAN
PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA -- The King's College baseball team earned a
double-header sweep over Bethany Lutheran University Tuesday in Port
Charlotte, Fla.
With the sweep, King's improved to 4-1 on the year.
In the opener, the Monarchs used a first-inning RBI single by Jeremy
Faust to score Caleb Calarco. King's added another run in the second
when Josh Faust singled and later scored on an error.
After surrendering a run in the third, King's added its final run in the
fourth when Jeremy Faust singled and later scored from third on an
infield grounder by Pat McGlynn.
Jeremy Faust and McGlynn were both 2-for-3 to pace the Monarch attack
Joe Jenkins picked up the pitching victory, going six innings and
allowing one run while striking out four batters. John McNichol earned
the save, pitching one hitless inning of relief.
In the nightcap, King's rallied from a 4-2 deficit with a three-run
seventh inning. Matt Livoy led off with a double after McGlynn walked
and Vince Budzyn was hit by a pitch to load the bases, J.R. Graver would
draw a walk to force in a run. Jon Venarchick then delivered an RBI
single to tie the score before Caleb Calarco lofted a sacrifice fly to
centerfield to plate Budzyn with the winning run.
Venarchick was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Jeremy Faust was also 2-for-3.
Aaron Deroba earned the pitching win in relief of starter J.T. Levonick.
Deroba allowed three hits and one earned run in four and two-thirds
innings
