KING'S BASEBALL SPLITS IN SEASON OPENER
PORT CHARLOTTE, FLA -- Mike Venarchick and J.R. Graver combined for
four hits, five runs, and five RBI, enabling the King's baseball team to
a 14-5 victory over Mt. Union College and salvage a split in its
season-opening double-header Sunday in Port Charlotte, Fla. King's
dropped the first game against Mt. Union 3-0.
In the nightcap, King's used an eight-run second inning to blow the game
open and the Monarchs would eventually hold a 14-0 lead after five
innings.
Graver was 2-for-3 with three runs, two RBI, two triples, and was walked
twice to reach base four times. Venarchick, meanwhile, was 2-for-5
with two runs and three RBI on a three-run home run in the third inning.
Josh Faust also had a big game for the Monarchs, going 2-for-3 with two
RBI while Jon Venarchick was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Matt Livoy added two
hits, including a double as the Monarchs pounded out 14 base hits. Caleb
Calarco picked up the win, tossing five innings of three-hit ball and
striking out nine batters.
In the opener, Mt. Union rode the arm of Shawn Kerek who tossed a
one-hitter, yielding just a second-inning to Mike Venarchick.
Paul Giovannoli took the pitching loss for King's, allowing all three
runs on nine hits over six complete innings.
