KING'S BASEBALL SWEEPS MISERICORDIA TO PREP FOR MAC TOURNEY
WILKES-BARRE -- The King's College baseball team prepped for the MAC
Freedom Conference Championships as the Monarchs closed out the
regular-season with a doubleheader sweep of College Misericordia Tuesday
at Betzler Fields.
King's won the first game 18-4 before taking the nightcap 9-3. With the
sweep, King's improved to 22-14 while Misericordia fell to 4-35.
In the opener, King's broke open the game with three runs in the second
and seven more in the third to build a 10-2 lead. The Monarchs would add
three more in the fifth and five in the sixth to put the game away.
J.R. Graver was 3-for-4 with an RBI double and scored two runs. Josh
Faust was 3-for-5 with a three-run double. Mike Venarchick was 2-for-4
with a double and four RBI. Rob Medlock was 2-for-3 with three runs and
two RBI. Misericordia also contributed to the onslaught with seven
errors.
Brandon Calafut led the Cougars by going 2-for-3, including a two-run
home run. Brian Valonis and Bryan Crum added two hits each while Mike
D'Amara chipped in with an RBI.
J.T. Levonick picked up the pitching victory for King's, allowing two
runs on four hits in four innings. Andrew DeGiacomo allowed two runs in
two innings while Ryan Derry pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the
Monarchs.
Steve Peet took the loss for Misericordia, allowing nine runs, seven
earned, on seven hits in two and two-thirds innings.
In the second game, King's build a 7-0 led with two runs in the second
and five in the third. Josh Faust was 2-for-3 with two RBI while Rob
Medlock was 2-for-4 with two runs and a pair of RBI. Matt Livoy was
2-for-3 with a run and drove in two runs while Mike Venarchick went
2-for-3 with a double, two runs and an RBI. Pat McGlynn was 1-for-2 and
scored a pair of runs.
Misericordia was paced by Ralph Vance who was 2-for-3 with an RBI while
Jerry Reed went 2-for-2. Calafut belted a two-run pinch hit home run in
the seventh, his second round trip shot of the game.
Tim Granquist earned the pitching victory for the Monarchs, allowing one
run on seven hits with two strikeouts in four innings of work. Josh
Kendrick was the loser for the Cougars, allowing nine runs on 11 hits
while striking out two batters.
King's will next compete in the Freedom Conference Championships Friday
through Sunday at Quakertown Memorial Park. Second-seeded King's will
face third-seeded DeSales Friday at 7:30 p.m. in its first contest.
