KING'S BASEBALL DOWNS MISERICORDIA, 12-3
DALLAS -- The King's College baseball team broke open a close game
with a seven-run fifth innings as the Monarchs registered a 12-3 victory
over host College Misericordia in an eight-inning, rain-shortened game
Tuesday in Dallas.
King's trailed 1-0 in the third when Vince Budzyn singled and later
scored on an RBI single from Mike Venarchick to tie the score at 1-1.
Misericordia would then score a run in the bottom half of the third to
take a 2-1 lead.
The Cougars would maintain their advantage until the fifth when Jon
Venarchick and Caleb Calarco registered base hits before Jeremy Faust
followed with an RBI single. Mike Venarchick would then single to load
the bases and Rob Medlock came through with a run-scoring single to give
King's a 3-2 lead. J.R. Graver would register a two-out RBI base hit
while Budzyn followed with a three-run home run to give King's an 8-2
advantage.
In the seventh, King's tacked on two more runs when Matt Livoy led off
with a walk and Medlock delivered a two-run home run to give the
Monarchs a 10-2 lead.
After Misericordia added a run in the bottom of the seventh, the
Monarchs pushed across their final two run sin the eighth. Nick Sorino
would double and Livoy followed with a walk. Both runners would advance
on a passed ball before Graver stroked an RBI single. Budzyn would later
loft a sacrifice fly to centerfield to plate Livoy and give King's a
12-3 lead.
Medlock led King's 15-hit attack with a 3-for-5 showing with three RBI
and two runs. Calarco was also 3-for-5 with two runs while Budzyn
finished 2-for-3 with four RBI. Graver and Mike Venarchick chipped in
with two hits each.
Gary Mazur picked up the win for King's, scattering nine hits over seven
innings and allowing two unearned runs, while striking out four batters.
Tim Granquist tossed one inning of scoreless relief.
King's will next travel to Allentown to face Muhlenberg College in a
4:00 p.m. contest.
