KING'S BASEBALL OVERPOWERS DREW WITH 33 RUNS ON 35 HITS TO SWEEP TWIN BILL FROM DREW

MADISON, NJ -- The King's College baseball team exploded for 33 runs on 35 base hits over the course of two games as the Monarchs posted an important doubleheader sweep of host Drew University Saturday in Madison, NJ.

King's won the first game 18-4 before taking the nightcap 15-4. With the wins, the Monarchs improved to 11-8 overall and 5-2 in Freedom Conference play while Drew slipped to 8-13 and 4-5.

In the opener, the Monarchs posted 18 base hits and raced out to an 11-3 lead after three innings King's would then put the game away with seven runs in the sixth inning. Jeremy Faust was 3-for-5 with five RBI, including a two-run single in the first inning and a three-run double in the sixth. Mike Venarchick was 3-for-5 with four RBI, including a two-run double in the third and a two-run home run in the fifth. Josh Faust was also 3-for-5 with two RBI and a double while Jon Venarchick went 2-for-4 with an RBI double.

Tim Granquist picked up the pitching victory for the Monarchs, allowing four earned runs in seven complete innings while striking out six batters.

In the nightcap, King's held a slim 5-4 lead after four innings but again posted a seven-run inning, this time in the fifth. J.R. Graver was 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI double. Mike Venarchick was 3-for-5 with five RBI, including a three-run double in the first inning. Jon Venarchick was 3-for-5 with a double while Nick Sorino was 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Jeremy Faust was 2-for-4 with two runs while Josh Faust was also 2-for-4 with an RBI double. The Monarchs posted 17 hits in the contest.

Caleb Calarco earned the complete-game pitching victory, allowing four earned runs and striking out five batters.

King's will face Wilkes in a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader Sunday at Artillery Park.
